Forthcoming legislation is likely to impose statutory minimum requirements alongside compulsory SIA authorisation with the result that employers will be looking for these qualifications as standard.

Security Services NVQs

As part of our training portfolio, CPD offers nationally recognised Security Services NVQs tailored to the needs of the employer and the individual.

NVQ Level 2

The Level 2 qualification in Providing Security Services is supported by government funding. It incorporates 3 globally recognised CIEH qualifications: Level 2 awards in the Principles of Manual Handling, Health and Safety in the Workplace and Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety, as well as an introduction to Emergency First Aid.

There are 5 mandatory units and 3 optional units required to compete the NVQ. Mandatory units cover minimising and responding to health and safety risks in the workplace, communicating effectively in the workplace, giving customers a positive impression of yourself and the organisation, controlling security incidents and producing documents manually.

Candidates can choose additional pathways by completing extra units - either before starting or on completion of the main NVQ - which qualify and enable them to work in the following specialist areas:

• CCTV operation

One day’s observation in the workplace will complete the qualification which is normally achieved in 10-12 weeks.
